It’s black and white Monday at Lens and Pens by Sally. I selected a photo that I took with my iPhone5 on a very overcast day from my front yard. The original was not shot in black and white but it was certainly a black and white day! So editing to black and white in the different apps just made subtle changes.
I pulled the following from Sally’s post (I hope she doesn’t mind). I found the explanation for how we perceive black and white very interesting:
“Science explains it this way: A surface which contains all colors will be seen as black, because the viewer perceives that no colors are being reflected. Whereas to realize white, the observer sees all colors reflected. This explanation is the path to: black is color and white is not.”

I like the original and the last one for different reasons. The first is more subtle in its ability to make the trees stand out, but the sky is quite interesting in its greys. The last has more pop, and the sky has more contrast as well as the tree line stands out more. Happy Phoneography Monday.
Thanks, Sally. I thought the same! 🙂
The last one is starker and more dramatic, but its fun to experiment and come out with different versions. 🙂
I thought so, too. Who would have thought we’d be taking pictures and video with our phones?!! And then using some strange thing called an app to change them! 🙂
I like seeing the different versions, something I thought about doing this week but with limited time to be online, I decided to wait. I’m with Sally in liking the original and the last.

I agree. I think the middle two were too subtle! 🙂

I like the original the best, I think. With a touch of blue still in the sky!
Thanks, Emilio, for visiting and commenting! 🙂
