In Washington state we call these conchs, we uses to pick the really big ones and then paint scenes on them….back in the 60’s…I lived in the Olympic National Park and we had access to the back logging roads..and would go get them off the trees that were that they fell….beautiful pictures,
Well, that sounds interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one painted. So, you got my curiosity up and I Googled it. It came up under painted fungus. There are some beautiful ones. I never would have thought of that! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 😀
I love these finds..ours have taken a long time to appear as despite the cold the rain has been scarce..i did find some up the mountain and popped them on my bloggie..i love funghi! 🙂 xx
I hadn’t seen them like this in my yard before. But then I think we’ve had rain nearly every day for the past two months. Some light and some heavy. Wish I could share with you! 😀
Linda, a true example of our summer here in the Mid Atlantic: Humid and hot that produces scores of mushrooms of various types. Your images capture their strangely elegant side. Happy Photo Challenge.

Excellent mobile phone photos.
Thanks, Suzanne! I appreciate that! 😀
Linda I was asking Jo about a photo similar to this earlier today. We don’t see these very often as it is so dry here.

Great mushroom photograph. These fungi are really magical!
Thanks, Amanda! Glad you like it! 😀
Nice shots. I like the potential cascading effect this sets up if it were to rain. That’s nature for you. 🙂
What a great idea (I say as I hit myself upside the head)…now that they’re dying out, I’ve missed that photo op! 🙄
ahw…the only thing missing are little fairies sitting on them! xo Johanna
Now that would have been perfection! 😀 ❤
