Interesting Start to the New Year!

Just thought I’d share what happened here a little before 5:00 a.m. Friday, January 4.  We were startled out of a sound sleep by what sounded like a big crash. It had been raining off and on for days and hubby thought we had been awakened by lightning or thunder. We went all around inside the house thinking the cats had knocked some things over and couldn’t see anything. Checking outside, it was so dark, we couldn’t see anything and our outside lights don’t really illuminate much.  But when we got up and it was light out — man, the Lord was watching over us. A huge tree had fallen right next to the house.  Maybe not so unusual in the woods.  But the unusual part and the miracle part is that it didn’t fall according to gravity (downhill).  How does a tree fall sideways against gravity?  If it had followed its natural course, it would have hit the house and probably done some serious damage. It fell sideways completely missing the house and just clipping a corner of the carport.  The carport did sustain some damage but not serious. And no damage to the cars. I’m just in awe and so humbled.  The pictures don’t do it justice. Next comes the cleanup and repair.
God is good! Sparkling heart

So glad to hear the tree didn’t damage your house! What a fright it must have been.

    • Thanks, Sue! Although hubby thought it was lightning or thunder, my first thought was what have the cats done now! LOL! We were both so wrong. And we are both so very grateful as it could have been much worse! 😀

When things like this happen, I’m always left with such a feeling of awe, knowing, really knowing I and my family are being Protected. We’ve had a few of those “close calls” so I know that feeling of “pinch me …. I’m not sure this is happening!”. Good luck with the cleanup!! 💞💞

  15. OhMyTree! Fortunately the tree did not damage the house!
That’s a strange way to begin this new year 🙄
    Ciao

  16. I’m glad everyone was safe. What a way to start the year but lucky the damage wasn’t worse. Best wishes for the rest of 2019.

Wow how lucky you were. Was the wind blowing? It wind will win against gravity. We lost a 100+ year old oak from our front yard several years ago in 60 mph winds. We were lucky as well, and it fell away from the house. Took out all the electricity in the neighborhood, fried several of our appliances, and squashed a car across the street. It did more damage as well, but that was the worst of it. Hope none of those others come down as well. Very happy everyone is safe. Hugs, Janet

    • So true, Janet! It was raining but I don’t remember it being all that windy — that night. But, whatever works! The trees are beautiful and I love being around them but, boy, stay outta their way! Obviously, your old oak did a lot more damage. We’ve got a couple of guys from church over this morning to help chop it up! Hugs! 😀

  20. Oh no! So glad you are safe!

  21. So scary, Linda! Glad no one was injured! We’ve had similar damage all around us this month due to storms and high winds!

  22. Hi, Linda; Happy New Year a bit belatedly. How are you doing up there in GA??? Still happy you made the move? Miss Winter Garden at all? BTW, glad to see your cats look healthy and happy!

    • Hi, Gail! I hope your new year is going well! Right now I’m not enjoying it because it’s 25 degrees today with powdered snow on the ground. I am glad that we haven’t had any big snows but I’m definitely and decidedly NOT a cold weather person. Once we get into spring weather, I’ll be fine and in love with the place again! I don’t miss Winter Garden all that much. I do miss friends and family and warm winter temps! I’m hibernating today! 😆 Kitties are all doing well! I hope you and yours are doing well!

  23. Lignum Draco says:

Wow, very lucky indeed. I can only assume it was a very strong wind and/or the weak point in the trunk was at the right spot relative to your house. I hope the new year is going well otherwise.

Linda – god is good all the time!
and so glad the tree missed the house (that is crazy that it defied gravity)
