My charity of choice is worldvision.org because it helps dig wells so others can have clean drinking water and they also provide agricultural help, for instance chickens, so recipients can get help providing for themselves. They also have disaster relief, which can involve many things.

    • That’s a wonderful charity! Any charity or church that truly helps people is good! πŸ˜€

I am glad you like World Vision. My criteria in choosing a charity is: 1) it needs to pass at minimum 80% of my donation on the the cause I’m giving to AND 2) give a ‘hand up’ vs. a ‘hand our’.
To me, a hand up allows those who are initially helped the means to regain health and dignity as they regain control over their situation. A hand out tends to create individuals who continually need help – IMHO, this is bad on many levels.

        • So very true about handouts. That’s why our Church’s welfare system works. It’s short term and it’s just there to help someone through a difficult patch until they can get back on their feet. Or it helps those who are unable to help themselves, whether it be health, a disability, or age, etc.

Exactly! It seems like ‘helping systems’ which are set up in local areas and/or by the local churches are more likely to truly help those in need over a rough patch, while the systems, which are organized at state and federal levels are so huge that individuals never can climb out of their problem. This is why I’m opposed to our welfare system – I know that statement will disgust many, but I believe each of us deserves the self-respect of helping ourselves and I simply don’t see Federal and State programs providing that.

  2. I love the Light the World campaign! My missionary and his district made a Light the World video. So sweet! My family and I have enjoyed some really cool experiences with the suggestions. ❀️
