Signs of Fall – But I’m Not Ready…

Nancy Merrill Photography challenges on her Photo a Week Challenge:  A PHOTO OR TWO (OR THREE OR…) OF THINGS THAT MEAN FALL TO YOU.

Oh, dear. I knew it was too good to be true.  Can you see it? Look close! It’s right in my front yard. It’s coming and I’m not ready. It’s coming and there’s nothing I can do about it! I really find it hard to believe that we’re already ending summer and beginning autumn. Living here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I am anxiously waiting to see what our fall foliage will look like come the middle of October. Hopefully, I’ll be posting autumn leaves again in a prettier format!

See the red leaves among the green? The leaves are already starting to turn. Fall followed by cold weather can’t be long away. I might have mentioned on previous occasions that I’m not a fan of the cold. But one good thing — I do love the fall colors and we’re right in the heart of it come October!

  1. It’s hard to believe that autumn is here. Your area is certainly further along than ours. It’s a strikingly season, as though the world becomes technicolor.

  2. So beautiful. Than you for the lovely pics and link to NKC.

  3. Ohhhh… South Carolina in this season is splendid! Yes, Fall is coming, but there it takes such superb, magnificent colours ❤
Your photos are great: you live in a stunning forest 🙂
    Ciao

    • Thanks, Sid! We’re loving it here in north Georgia. It’s a far cry from our former address in central Florida! 😀

      • North Georgia! In a forest, silence and nature! 😀
I must have done something wrong in my life on this opposite side of the ocean, in this big unfriendly city! Fantastic North Georgia ❤
        Happy Tuesday!
        Sid

        • I’m not sure just where you are but I have always wanted to visit Italy. Everything I’ve seen in pictures is so beautiful. I’m sorry your city is unfriendly. That’s not where such a kind and friendly person such as you should be. Or else, maybe it is — you can make it friendly one person at a time! 😉 Big hugs to you! ❤

        • North Italy, Milan 😀
A big city, wonderful to people who visit it for food and fashion. But to live here all the year that’s another question!
          Ciao
          Sid

  4. Beautiful! Sorry you have to experience the cold along with the beautiful colors. 🙂 Thanks for joining the challenge! (P.S. Love Nate King Cole!)

Gorgeous! I am heading to the Sierras on Saturday to see the fall colors.

  8. foguth says:

I love seeing the leaves turn colorful autumn… it is one of the things I miss most about living in Florida.
BTW, that is certainly an impressive pumpkin!

    • I must say, it’s wonderful to be back where there are seasons. After years in Arizona and Florida, I was really missing them (not the cold of the northern states, though!). That pumpkin was awesome. I just kept wondering how they got it there without it breaking! HA!

      • foguth says:

I wondered how they’d managed to move that pumpkin, too. We’ve been in warm latitudes since 2005 and much as I enjoy actual seasons, I doubt we’ll move – my husband has mega issues with the cold.

  9. Cecilia says:

Your pictures say one thing: fall is here! I love fall colors. Great photos!

  10. terrepruitt says:

Ha! This is what I say when warm weather is coming. No, I’m not ready. I don’t like you. Right now I am saying, “YEAH! Bring on the fall.” But we live in different places. 🙂 Your leaves are gorgeous!

  11. DG MARYOGA says:

  12. Dalo 2013 says:

A great post Linda ~ and then to end it with Nat King Cole, yes, you are ready for autumn 🙂 🙂
Wishing you a great season ahead.

  13. prior.. says:

oh that raining leaves was too cool – and great post
and it was dark so early tonight – well before 8 – and i was NOT ready for that – sniff

    • Thanks! I wish I could have captured the full effect of those leaves. At one point (before my mind woke up and said camera) they were falling so thickly it was amazing! I hate to see the days getting shorter. And I really hate the time change that makes it even worse! But we’ll get through this! HA! Love and hugs! 😀

      • prior.. says:

thanks for the love and hugs – and the reminder we will get thru this – ha!
seriously – it was nice to read.
and I also bought some Christmas baskets yesterday – dirt cheap (didn’t sell at a craft fair) and I might use them for xmas eve treat delivery – so I guess i am already moving forward – 🙂

        • We’re on the same wavelength! I usually wait to the last minute to start getting stuff for Christmas. This year, for some reason (maybe it’s the cooler temps than in FL), I’m already thinking of picking up some things ahead of time for give-aways! 😀 ❤

        • prior.. says:

I feel like some years I start getting stuff kinda early and then a huge gap goes by and only in the last week everything else gets done.

      • prior.. says:

oh and I used the cat comic of yours (from an email) and omg – it is so fun – the “who did this?” one

  14. love your video of blowing leaves! and great images ( I’m a bit behind as usual!)

  15. Aquileana says:

Beautiful post, dear Linda… I have always thought that autumn is the most poetic season, and you seem to prove that here 😀 have a great weekend. Love & best wishes 🙂

    • Thank you, dear Aquileana! I sit here watching the leaves drop and those left on the trees are beginning to get their beautiful fall colors. It has been a bit on the warm side with extra rain so I’m not sure we’ll get the bright fall colors this year. I should know for sure in about a week!

  16. Beautiful. I actually prefer fall.
