This week, Jennifer Nichole Wells’ One Word Photo Challenge is HERON. These were taken with my iPhone5 at Lake Apopka in Winter Garden, Florida before we moved.
I think that is near Orlando, so they might have slightly different birds than we do on the coast. For certain, they are hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than we are.
We have smaller white birds that sort of look like herons, but I think they are ibis or something.
Since they started spraying for zika mosquitoes, our bird population has seriously dwindled. A couple weeks ago, we drove down to the Marathon for a friend’s birthday and instead of seeing flocks of birds, we merely saw an occasional one… That was very upsetting to me.
Lovely photo. We often see blue herons along our river when we are riding our bike. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
Thanks, Hannah! That’s a beauty of one that you’ve captured and posted on your blog, too! I haven’t seen any up here in the mountains but I haven’t been to any lakes yet! We’ll see! 😀
Aren’t they fascinating, Linda, I think your picture is amazing. We now see herons flying too, but Granny is always to late to make a picture😸Pawkisses for a Happy Day😘❤😻
They are fascinating creatures! Like something from another time! I’m so glad you like my pictures. Pawkisses right back at ya for a beautiful day! 😀 ❤
We have herons down here in Florida, too. I think their official name is blue herons… for certain, when they fly over, they get my attention.
These are a couple of your Florida herons! I actually took these pictures before we moved from there!
The white one doesn’t look like something we have here, but if the grey one stands 3-4 feet tall, it’s what we see.
Hmm, these were both photographed on Lake Apopka in Winter Garden.

Yep, Winter Garden had become almost like a suburb of Orlando. And, you’re right, we didn’t get the cooler ocean breezes! 😉

That is so sad and frustrating. 😟
Makes me think of the book Silent Spring… we have a few resident birds in our yard, but they are a fraction of what used to live here.
Beautiful! The Heron is one of my favorite winged creatures and I so delight if I actually see one in flight.
They’re such unusual looking creatures! Love em! I was glad I was able to at least sort of capture him with my iPhone! 😀
What a beauty…nicely captured.
Thanks so much, Sally! Have a wonderful week! 😀

Thanks, Janet! Now, please tell me how you got all the Kitties Blue to ride bikes! Bwahahaha! 😆
These two are so beautifully captured, Linda! Love the bird in flight. 🙂
Thanks so much, Amy! 😁
