I knew it was bound to happen. Everyone said it would. I tried to ignore the warning signs. But, omigosh, now what?
IT SNOWED!!
So it’s pretty. And how many of you are out there laughing because you’re buried under several feet of snow at the moment wishing this was all the snow you had. Well, it’s the first snow I’ve had to contend with in 30 years. And since this is the first, I’m sure there will be more. At least by Monday, the temperature is supposed to be up around 50 again. YAY! And, yes, I still miss Florida. That’s our downhill driveway behind the tree that we can’t get down at the moment because it’s too steep and too slippery. And we have no winter clothes. It’s on our list. Okay, we have some light jackets and we each have a sweater. We do have a couple of sweatshirts.Even when I lived in cold climates, I never liked bundling up. Oh, well. Gripe, gripe, moan, complain. Okay, I’m done. The bright side is we get to go shopping (when it warms up) and start acquiring winter clothing.
Here’s a couple more views from our porch.
Well, I’m sitting here at my new desk looking out my window onto a very similar scene. We know there are deer up here. I’ve only seen their tails as they bounded down a hill. But I have high hopes that one of these days I’ll be able to capture a photo. I will say I do believe that when spring arrives, it will be beautiful around here with all of the plant life. We’re looking forward to trying our hand at a small garden.
In the meantime, I’ll just stay inside my toasty little house and be content looking out the windows. I’ll be posting a bit more on the actual move-in shortly.
Yes it made me laugh, I grew up in Minnesota (I now live next to the ocean) so I know how both the first day of snow and the last are so greatly anticipated. If you are without warm clothing and jackets I’d recommend a trip to the thrift store that should have a load of winter clothing and you will not have to pay full price, its a thought. That should give you a chance to buy what you like when you can get sale prices.
Can’t even begin to imagine a Minnesota winter. I grew up in NW Ohio and KY and lived in Dallas and Logan, UT. I had hoped that was all the cold I’d have to deal with. N. GA is supposed to be a compromise and so it probably is! Time will tell. Great idea on the thrift store. There are a couple of those around along with some consignment stores. We shall see — after it warms up a bit! 😆
Your new location is a lovely secluded spot that I’m sure will be memorable as the seasons change. We’re getting ready for a first snowstorm this Saturday. One is just what I like, then I’m ready for Spring and the earth’s renewal.
Thanks, Sally. I agree with you! But I hear that your area is looking at some heavy winter weather. Stay safe and warm!
The forecast is for a huge storm. I’m always in favor of wait and see. One big one a season is enough for me. Thanks.
Can’t wait to hear more!
It will be coming soon! I can’t seem to keep it to myself! 😆
Beautiful window scene! Looking forward to reading more…
Thanks, Amy! Plenty more to come! 😀
Gorgeous pics!!! And we r bracing for a big snow – they said maybe 36 hours of it???
I hope you didn’t get slammed too hard with hit. I imagine you got more than we did. We had about 24 hours but it’s already melting a bit (still on the ground but I can see it going). Supposed to be sunny tomorrow and high of 46 so I imagine just about all of it will be gone soon.
Wow – glad u did not get it too bad in GA! ❄️and I saw in Orlando it was 41 – !!
things here in va are still windy and snowy- but we are not as bad as NJ- PA -and NY!
But what a pause in everything!
My friend in NJ sent me a pic of her house the other day. Shut me right up! LOL! My sis-in-law who is still in FL, was complaining about the cold (41) while I was praying our temps would just get above 32! 😛
Oh that is so fun- and you know how I am from Buffalo? Well they actually missed this storm completely and that is pretty rare! Usually when we see the western New York area on weather channel there is a bolt or huge snowflake over that area – lol – but I am glad they were spared –
Man, that is rare about Buffalo. I’ve never been there but about the only thing I know about it is what I hear about the snow they get… that and the fact that Margaret Richard from Body Electric (exercise studio and show on PBS) left Florida and moved there quite a few years ago! LOL 😆
Well wow – I think she might have moved back to buffalo because I think she was from there – and she really was ahead of her time for working out and all that stuff! Were you friends with her when she lived in Florida?
I wouldn’t say friends, per se. I started going to her studio in ’83 when she opened in Tallahassee. Then when I found out I was moving to Dallas (another story), I really wanted to franchise her studio but I couldn’t raise the money. When I found her show on PBS years later, I was elated. I loved her style and followed her for years. I was hoping she would post more on YouTube. Oh, well… 🙄
I hear you on the you tube sharing, I was hoping a few of my favs would be there- but maybe to would pull from sales.
And now I am curious as to whether or not she is from Buffalo or moved there.
Side note, my mom has a workout lady she does with TV each day – and I will get her name to see if she comes on where you are – we do not get her here in VA – but when I am Florida visiting my mom I always try and catch this lady’s how – it is SO good and you can jump in at any level – I will get the name
I think she’s lived in several different states. In FL, she was married to an atty and they split. I think she remarried and then moved to Buffalo. But who really knows (or cares)! LOL I’d love to know what program you’re talking about. I don’t have cable TV anymore but maybe I can find HER on YouTube or something! 😀 Stay warm my friend!
thanks – and things are warming up here – and quick question – what is an “atty”
Sorry, I worked in the field too long — abbreviation for attorney! 😀
ahhh! thanks! and when I send you your thank you box next month I will share some Adrienne Reed yoga with ya – love her stuff!
Aw, most exciting, my friend. By the way, we saw some deer run by the house today. Too fast for me and my camera! But one of these days! 😀
Oh this is truly a new life! Wow
Yes we do indeed have copious quantities of the white stuff here in Ontario. It was inevitable winter would appear. It is quite pretty but I don’t like driving during the heavier snowfalls😕
Brrr! That’s why I could never live in your neck of the woods! This one is putting me to the test. But the nice thing about being retired is I don’t have to go out in it! 🙂
That is a plus Linda! Cheers
That made me snort my tea actually Linda. Yes it is pretty isn’t it? Stay warm my friend. Maybe a little sledding down the wee hill? 🙂
heehee! If I tried to walk down the drive to the mail box, I fear there would definitely be sledding on my backside! LOL! In the meantime, I’m indoors and quite toasty! Now, that’s my cup o’ tea! 😀
That is a chnage from all those year Florida!! Enjoy! Xo Johanna
A big change for me since I said I wouldn’t do this again! But, this too shall pass! And, luckily, nothing requires that I leave my house at the moment! Maybe I’ll be acclimated by next winter and then be like you — loving it! 😉
Love it while it lasts….with 50 degree weather coming, you’ll be out of your driveway before you know it. I really love your place…it looks so peaceful! Take care.
Thanks, Lenore! At this point, I’m looking forward to the warmer temps! It is pretty here! 🙂
Woooow!Gorgeous photos dear Linda!Fabulous snowy sceneries,it looks as if you are in a lovely hilly area with wonderful forests around and a great variety of trees and plants.Keep warm even in your light winter cloths and enjoy your new life there. You might miss Florida, but I am sure you’ll enjoy everything in your new place.Be patient until spring arrives and you’ll get the loveliest compensation.Take care ! Warm hugs to you for the day 🙂 xxx
I needed those encouraging words, dear Doda! I am not a cold weather person and keep thinking I’m not going to like it here. Then it clears up and warms up a bit and I’m all gung-ho! It’s true I miss Florida and my friends terribly but I am still looking forward to this exciting new adventure. Now, if I can just keep from getting allergies when all this wildlife begins blooming around me! LOL! Hugs to you! 😀
I am so glad you appreciated my visit, dear Linda! It’s just the beginning now, gradually,as you get used to your new surrounding area and your house, nostalgia will faint … But it will never stop popping up every now and then. You’ll always carry with you the sweetest memories. As for allergies,we’ll never manage to really escape from or rid ourselves of those nasty allergies even in big cities.I know the feeling … Hugs back to you! 🙂 xxx
Thank you, dear Doda, for your encouragement. I will acclimate to my new place soon enough. We already are making some wonderful new friends. As for the allergies, I wasn’t bothered at all in Florida. But I’m wondering if maybe my issues here have to do with the dry heat from running the furnace so much. I’m not used to that dry air! Take care! Hugs! 😀
Wonderful!New life, new friends, everything is new there and you will be reborn.Hope the situation won’t be that bad with the allergies.Hugs back to you,Linda my friend 🙂
oh what a wonderful place Linda!! I love the snow! and thank you so much for your thoughtful email. I am in the throes of a move myself but I know it will make me long to go back again.
Thanks, Hannah! This must be the year for moves. There seems to be a lot of that going around! Best of luck with your move. Keep us posted! 😀
will do!
It really is beautiful. We got about 13 inches of snow. Our mom likes to watch it falling and then wants it to melt immediately. When she moved to the midwest in the early 70s from California, she didn’t have anything that resembled winter clothing. It was much colder there than it is where we live in VA and had lots more snow. But she often still wishes she was living in a temperate climate. Stay warm and safe. You win! After seeing what everyone else received in the way of snow, I feel like a wimp! LOL! Ours was gone in about 48 hours. We’re supposed to have daytime temps in the 50s for about a week now. Don’t know if that will hold. You know how those weather forecasts can change! You kitties stay safe and warm and cuddle more with Mama! Hugs! 😀
It’s pretty, Linda!
Thanks, Cynthia! Hope you’re staying warm and well! 🙂
I’m working at it, Linda. Giving thanks, as always, helps to shut down my desire to complain! (smile)
So….it’s Florida in the rear-view mirror, eh? Cheap advice: Merrell boots. And double-thick wool socks.
Sigh, for now Florida is a happy memory. And that sounds like excellent (valuable) advice to me! I’ve already begun the search! 🙂
I’ll second that! Learn to layer with Cuddle Duds (brand 😉), wool socks and fleece, and you’ll stay nice and warm without a lot of extra bulk, as well as, extra expense on a lot of winter clothes that don’t keep you warm! 😊
Great advice. That sounds exactly like what I need! I’ll definitely be checking all those things out! Thanks!
Winter views are always lovely. Snows are like added decorations to the mundane. No winter clothes ready, such a non-girl-scout attitude. Geez! 😀 (Kidding)
HAHA! It’s true that winter views can be lovely Rommel. As long as I don’t have to go out in it (for now anyway). Besides, I wasn’t a Girl Scout — I was a Campfire Girl! LOL 🙄
A beautiful view but I say that from my my a summery Sydney. 🙂
Keep the log fire burning. Winter clothes and a shovel are what you need. 🙂
It’s growing on me! Ah, sweet summer. I so look forward to it. Got logs on the fire but still need to acquire some real winter clothes. Haven’t needed a shovel cause we’re in a forest! That, and the fact that when the hilly driveway is covered, we don’t venture out! HA! 😀
Stunning view, despite the cold weather… Sending love and warm vibes. Aquileana 🙂
Thank you so much, Aquileana! It went away and now it’s back again. I just can’t seem to free myself from it! All in good time. I have never been one to enjoy the cold! Hope you’re staying warm and cozy, my friend. 😀
You are now living in a winter tale 🙂 What a blessing, Linda! Gorgeous photos!
Thanks, Paula! It’s going to take some effort on my part because I’m definitely not a winter loving person!
It’s beautiful, when you are inside and looking to it 😀 Happy Valentine’s Day. Extra Pawkisses for the occasion 🙂 ❤
LOL! I couldn’t have said it better myself! 😆 Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Little Binky! 😀 ❤
Oh, I love the snow. It’s so beautiful. We haven’t had much of it here this winter, and I’ve been a little bummed about it, but that’s winter in Georgia. Sometimes, you get the white, fluffy stuff, and sometimes, you don’t. 😁 I so enjoy seeing other people’s pics of it, and it always makes me yearn for more of it! ❄️⛄️☃🌨 Thanks for sharing!
Maybe next year I’ll be more amenable to snow but my Florida winter is still too fresh in my mind! If you don’t mind my asking, what part of Georgia are you in?
Around Lake Lanier
A beautiful view you have there!
Thanks! It is beautiful here. 😀
You moved!!!
We did and I’m still having mixed emotions! I miss my Florida home but I know that once winter and cold weather is over, I’ll like it here. I’m just going to have to figure out how one of these years, I can spend my winters in Florida! HA! 🙄
Hot chocolate with marshmallow weather
Yes, indeed! I’m hibernating till spring! LOL! Happy New Year! 😀
