This weeks One Word Photo Challenge is the color Periwinkle!
Periwinkle is a color in the blue and purple family. Its name is derived from the lesser periwinkle or myrtle herb (Vinca minor) which bears flowers of the same color. This color is also similar to the mint color.
The color periwinkle is also called lavender blue. The color periwinkle may be considered a pale tint of blue or a “pastel blue”.
The first recorded use of periwinkle as a color name in English was in 1895. (Wikipedia)
What a delightful and informative post, dear Linda ! Your extensive analysis on the colour blue and all its hues and nuances is absolutely captivating and so are your photos included !!!
Have a great week , ((( hugs ))) , Doda 🙂 xxx
Thank you, Doda! As always your comments brighten my day! 🙂 I’m wishing you a wonderful week!
You always learn something new in the blogosphere. Nice share, Linda. I’m colorblind but I’m pretty sure I love this kind of blue.
Thank you, Rommel. I am surprised and sorry to hear that you are colorblind. I don’t know much about it other than there are certain colors you can’t distinguish? I’ll tell you one thing, though, it certainly hasn’t affected your photography! Your photos are always amazing! 🙂
Linda I appreciate the variety of photos in your posts. Your diversity is something I really admire not to mention your photographic talents!
Wow, thanks, Sue! I appreciate that because sometimes I think becauseI don’t get to travel currently that my photos might be mundane and boring since it’s pretty much all local stuff. I’m glad you like them!
A lovely post – the tray of butterflies takes me back to museum visits with my parents when I was young.
Thanks, Suzanne! The butterflies were taken at the Central Florida Zoo! 🙂
That’s even better – they are alive! Not the sad pinned versions I remember at the museum.
It would be better but these butterflies, alas, are the sad pinned ones. I would imagine they’ve been there for a long time. 😦
Unique – most everyone else just thinks of flowers when they hear periwinkle!
Thanks! I guess since I’m not a gardener, flowers aren’t usually the first thing I think of! 😉
Just gorgeous 🙂 beautiful Butterflies and the lovely Salvias always make me smile 🙂 hugs fozziemum xx
Thanks, Bev! So that’s what those flowers are! hee hee! 😆
Yep hahahaha…I have the blue and red and a gorgeous white with pink ends and one that is a rusty blood colour they all survived the hideous summer so thumbs up to them 🙂 xxx
Liebe Linda einen schönen Dienstag wünsche ich dir Klaus aus Köln
Thanks, Klaus! Have a wonderful week! 🙂

Great Periwinkles! Thanks so much for sharing, Linda! I especially love the butterflies 🙂
Thank you so much for explaining the periwinkle! Beautiful color, beautiful post as always!
Thanks, Amy! The more I looked at my photos, the more I kept wondering. So, I had to check and then I just figured I’d share! LOL!!
What a delightful and informative post, dear Linda!
Thanks so much, Simi! Sending wishes for a wonderful week to you! 🙂
awesome collection – and love the connection to the color challenge 🙂
Thanks, Y! Much appreciated! 🙂
Another great collection; the butterflies are particularly lovely 🙂
They were beautiful but it made me sad to see them under glass.
Yes; I understand that. The Auckland Museum has drawers full of butterflies and insects pinned like that under glass. It always make me sad to see them, but glad people don’t have private “collections” so much these days.
🙂
Hi Linda,
Gorgeous set of photographs here, very catching to the eye (at first and further sight 🙂 )
Best wishes to you, Aquileana 😀
Thanks for your kind comment! Here’s wishing you a beautiful weekend! 😀
